Boys and Girls Club

Boys and Girls Club, Edinburg, Texas (2005-2010)

Jamie Crawley, AIA, LEED AP | Lead Designer, Project Manager

-- Sabrina Walker-Hernandez, Chief Operating Officer Edinburg Boys and Girls Club

Early in the campaign the fund raising efforts produced a significant gift: a green field site of 20 acres situated prominently in a 100+ acreage new development.  The facility program was enhanced by the larger site allowing for ball fields and courts, an amphitheater, hiking paths and other outdoor activities which the design team under the direction of JAMIE CRAWLEY,AIA, LEED AP integrated in an overall site master plan.  Beyond the aesthetic goals of a warm and youth-friendly facility, the design team strived to provide the most cost-effective, energy efficient, low-maintenance project achievable within the budget.

Spurred by the design team’s suggestion and encouragement, the Board decided to further the design process and pursue LEED certification.  Sustainable design features in the project include non-ozone depleting HVAC refrigerant, rain water and condensate collection, distribution systems for the landscape and native vegetation, recycled materials, low VOC materials, and provision of day-lighting views throughout the facility, and also an extensive green sign package for education and way-finding.

This project is currently in construction (complete by the end of 2010.) Jamie Crawley, AIA, LEED AP served as Lead Designer and Project Manager while with TAG International for this project.
